Hot Tap Online Welding Process Includes

Hot tap online welding, sometimes known as hot tapping, is a method of connecting to an existing pipeline while it is still in use and under pressure. Welding a new pipeline length onto an old pipeline through a hole cut in the pipe is the method.

Hot-tap welding shall not be performed on any material with a maximum operating temperature greater than 370Ā°C; and any material with a minimum operating temperature less than -20Ā°C.

Hot-tap welding should not normally be performed on materials which require post-weld heat treatment. However, if stress relieving or post-weld heat treatment is required, a specialist service provider such as Wellube can be consulted to assess the feasibility.

For flammable medium pipelines, it is not permitted to weld in no flow conditions due to safety factors. A minimum purge velocity of 0.4 m/sec should be maintained throughout the welding cycle.
