Project Summary

Wellube successfully repaired a flare line with multiple sections of corrosion using a 2.9m long 24” enclosure clamp, with zero interruption to production. This is one of the largest clamps manufactured and installed by our Qatar team.

Design of the clamp

Client Requirement

The client had performed an inspection of their pipelines and it was discovered that a large section of the flare line had been corroded. The client then approached Wellube to provide online leak sealing with a solution that can repair the corroded section with no interruption to operation.

Challenges Faced

  • In the pipeline, there were multiple changes in geometry which needed to be encapsulated.
  • The difficulties and risk in installing such a large clamp at a high elevation.
  • Fabricating of the clamp owing to its big size.

Solution Engineered

Wellube team after discussing with the client and assessing the situation, recommended installation of an enclosure clamp as the preferred repair solution.
Based on the site requirements, our design team engineered a large 2.9m long 24” enclosure clamp. It was designed and manufactured according to ASME standards to withstand a temperature of 200°C and pressure of 0.7MPA, it weighed around 2 Tons.
The clamp was fabricated within a very short time frame and once in situ, it was successfully installed. This was followed by the injection of sealants to seal off the clamp completely. The project was safely and successfully implemented allowing the continuous operation of the line without a costly shutdown.
The client was extremely pleased with the competence and dedication of the Wellube team to provide the best solution to mitigate the corrosion in the pipeline.
